I dare to dream again. Step out of my boat and onto the water. Fan the flame inside that drives my sense of adventure. Becoming braver, bolder as I go deeper, never losing who I am in Christ my Saviour. I dare to dream again, I dare to dream again.‘ (Dare to dream – Red Letters)
Have you ever felt so deflated and so discouraged that all you want to do is give up and quit altogether?
That has been my story since I was a child.
I have, unfortunately, been known for quitting and running away from lots of things: new hobbies, college, university, friendships, even God!
When the going got tough, my initial instinct would always be to just, quite simply, give up!
I once erased every single song I ever wrote and recorded, spanning over 4 years worth of artistry, in the space of 20 seconds. I’d like to say I was upset at myself for doing this but I genuinely wasn’t.
I can’t even remember why I erased them but it was probably due to my own insecurities. Anyway, I wasn’t in the least bit bothered and would think my songs were rubbish so what was the point in sharing them.
This has been an ongoing pattern of behaviour for so long and even now I have to stop myself from deleting things I have written or recorded.
So, what changed?
Over the last two years my love for Jesus has grown and grown. I’m learning more about His beautiful, loving nature every day and I’m learning to solely trust and rely on Him.
I’ve learned that Jesus has a plan and a purpose for me and that I cannot fail if I am following where He leads me.
Dare to dream….. the song
The song, Dare to dream, came about when Jon and I were at a crossroad in our life. We had just made the decision to leave our church, after a few difficult months, and felt that God was leading us on to another church.
This all happened right at the beginning of the new year and we received many confirmations from the Lord to say we were making the right decision in moving on.
For the last year our vision had been buried and it felt like we were just going through the motions and not really gaining ground in anything.
In Proverbs 29:18 it says: ‘Without vision the people perish’ and we were surely perishing!
After moving churches we started to feel alive again and God began reminding us of the mandate He had given us so many years ago:
To write & record our own Holy Spirit inspired songs and to bring people into the presence of God through leading worship.
It was time to ‘dream again’ and we both began to get excited about what God had called us to do.
It was time to step out of the boat, trust God and walk in the promises He had for us. We knew He wouldn’t let us down.
If you’re in need of some encouragement when it comes to a vision that you believe God has given you, don’t give up!
God has it all in hand. He won’t let that vision die even when the flame is burning low.
Habakkuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed future time It hurries toward the goal of fulfillment; it will not fail. Even though it delays, wait patiently for it, Because it will certainly come; it will not delay.
