A piece on peace

How important is having peace to you?

After years of suffering with anxiety and experiencing intense periods of worry, fear and dread; I can tell you that peace in my heart & life is very important to me. I am so thankful to God for the peace I have now.

So, please excuse the pun but heres my ‘piece on peace’.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

The peace that Jesus gives us is the type of peace that surpasses all understanding. (Philippians 4:7)

Its the kind of peace that causes the world to question, “how on earth can you remain peaceful during seasons of suffering and testing?!”

Its during these trials that we suddenly become more aware of God’s perfect peace and experience His presence firsthand.

My dear friend, Chanaz, passed away in June last year with cancer. I was utterly devastated but had the privilege of being with her and praying for her hours before she went to be with the Lord. Before she died I asked her if she ever felt afraid. She said that during the times when she felt fear, she would pray and then experienced a peace so strong that the fear would immediately leave her. Chanaz remained at peace right until her very last breath. When we’re filled with God’s peace, we are ready for any challenge that life throws at us.

Obtaining peace and keeping it

First you must make peace with God – Accept what Jesus has done on the cross for you. He died to give you peace with God.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Next, you must make peace with yourself – Know who you are in Jesus. You are the righteousness of God and have been forgiven and set free.

Colossians 1:20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross

Allow peace to be your umpire – Walk in God’s will for your life and follow Jesus where He leads. We know instinctively when we are outside of God’s will because we quickly lose our peace. Its essential to stay in tune with the Holy Spirit, through maintaining a relationship with Jesus.

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].

Let go – Cast every care and worry on Jesus. The worries in our life are not ours to keep and Jesus tells us to hand them over to Him & be free from the stress of the world.

1 Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Wait on God – check with God before making decisions. Try not to make hasty decisions but instead, spend time in prayer beforehand. We lose our peace when we react in the flesh rather than in the spirit.

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Jesus tells us that the peace he gives us is not like the worlds. Here’s how they differ:

 The worlds peace is:

  • Temporary
  • Easily changeable
  • Dependent on circumstances

But…..

God’s peace is:

  • Eternal
  • Consistent
  • Not dependent on circumstances

Praying that you experience God’s peace in your life this week.

  1. Hayley, how absolutely beautiful and so peaceful! I love those pictures!
I thought of you today because my devotional was for me to focus my attention to “know You” referring to God. I am hoping to do a post on that devotion and what the Lord whispered. He definitely whispered your name for prayer and encouragement.
